As we age, our eyelids and surrounding skin can start to sag. This can reduce the aesthetic appearance of our eyes, or in some cases, it can even impede our vision. An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that can reduce these issues associated with aging.
The video above explains the eyelid lift as it is performed on both the upper and lower eyelids. Using an animation, the video shows where the incisions are made on the skin so that they are less noticeable, and how skin or fat can be removed from around the eye.
If you live in the San Antonio area and have been considering an eyelid lift, contact Dr. Manuel A. Lopez at Lopez Plastic Surgery before you undergo your eye lift procedure. Dr. Lopez has won numerous awards in surgery and research. At Lopez Plastic Surgery, we’ll make sure that you’re treated with the utmost attention and care. As Botox becomes an ever more popular way to alleviate wrinkles and sagging skin, among other uses, myths that circulate about its use and effects have become widespread. If you are interested in using Botox, keep on reading to learn the truth about Botox and keep yourself informed.
1. Botox Is Toxic
This myth arose because Botox is derived from botulinum toxin, a substance that causes a type of food poisoning called botulism. In reality, Botox will not generate these side effects. The most serious side effects have occurred in children who were given Botox to treat arm or leg spasticity related to cerebral palsy, but botulism toxins are not approved in the U.S. for this purpose. When used for its correct prescription or cosmetic use, Botox is safe and will not spread beyond its injection site.
2. Botox Injections Are Painful
Discomfort from Botox treatments is usually minimal. In fact, today’s Botox injections are made with very thin and fine needles, so the procedure is often painless. The procedure will usually take less than 20 minutes, so these sessions are generally comfortable and quick.
3. Botox is Addictive
While studies have shown that Botox patients do often tend to repeat their Botox procedures, this tendency is completely unrelated to any form of psychological dependency. In fact, Botox is a temporary procedure that usually lasts between 3 to 9 months. The effects of Botox are incapable of passing the blood-brain barrier and thus cannot access the brain. The repeated use of Botox is most likely patient satisfaction with their results—something to be proud of!
